Business VoIP (business voip, business sip voice services, voice over IP, voice over internet, et al) is called many things and has almost as many definitons, depending on who you talk to, or what their exposure has been.  How do we make all this jargon, complete with “propreitary”  and “open” language make sense to the person who can benefit from an understanding of it?

We are going to try to help.

1. Is Business VoIP about never paying for long distance again?

That is a feature that is available, and many of these solutions do not charge usage, except for international long distance.

2. What advantages do I gain from using this new technology?

Believe it or not, this technology is not all that new, but it has been the focus of virtually all the research and development funds in the business voice communications space for the last 10 years or more.  There are many advantages, but, because each business is different, you may need someone to help you see your specific advantage.  Mobile integration, enabling of the remote enterprise, lowering costs over traditional solutions, geographically unlocked, as well as many other advantages exist…. like doing more with less.

3.  Is Business VoIP reliable?

In our new world, only one network survives, and it’s primary feature isn’t dial tone.  Business VoIP is, at this time, likely as reliable as digital voice ever was, because it benefits from other enhancing technologies that traditional voice didn’t benefit from.  Redundancy, duplication, and a multiplicity of network paths are just a few of the things that ramp up your technology.  Because traditional voice was built in a “silo”, it didn’t have exposure to risk from other systems… but it also couldn’t benefit from the upside.  You may have heard of five 9s reliability?  More detailed arrhythmic info and definitions here:  Availability  Five 9s reliability is normally the target of availability, and once that is achieved, there is a diminishing focus toward it.  Five 9s reliability can be reached with Business Voip.
